Yam export goes to China as well as India and Thailand
YAM has been exported to China which is major destination as well as India and Thailand.
“China is the major buyer and we export to India and Thailand as well. Thailand buys from me and other traders. But India buys from me only,” said Ko Salai from Cherrymyay yam trading.
The culture of yam consumption has developed recently in domestic market and it has been also used at hotels and restaurants, so the price is likely to be better gradually, he said.
“Compared to other foods which are preserved, organic yam food products are healthier and can reduce cholesterol in blood. That is why, the consumption of yam has begun widespread now,” he added. — Thit Taw/ZS
