Kyunsu, Myeik ferries back in service after weather halt
PASSENGER ferries have resumed normal service between Kyunsu and Myeik in Taninthayi Region after being suspended due to weather.
Since 23 July, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has announced that all ferries, cargo, economy, and other coastal passenger ferries, except for express boats, will be unable to depart due to severe sea waves.
Although express boats travel up-down routes twice daily and wooden boats and wooden cargo boats run up-down routes once daily in Kyunsu Township, these services were temporarily discontinued beginning on 23 July due to weather conditions. It is planned to restore normal operation once the weather improves and the vessels are allowed to leave when the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (Taninthayi Region) permits it.
As the weather is currently good, the ferry service has been operating to Kyunsu and Myeik as scheduled since 16 July, with two up-down daily ferry trips and one up-down cargo boat trip. — ASH/MKKS
