Natural disaster management measures cannot be taken by a single person or organization but through collaborative efforts: Vice-Senior General
July 29
Firm organizational
setup, proper work system and harmonious coordination are essential in natural
disaster management, said Chairman of the National Natural Disaster Management
Committee Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime
Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win at the meeting 1/2022 of the management
committee at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement yesterday
afternoon.
Speaking at the
meeting, the Vice-Senior General stressed the need to make preparations with
the best arrangement to respond to natural disasters with the strength of human
resources by forecasting the possibilities of disasters depending on seasons
and regions.
A firm organizational
setup, proper work system and harmonious coordination are essential in natural
disaster management. Different levels of the management systems must be set up
with policies, action plans and SOP.
Preparations must be
made for management committees, people and charity organizations to cooperate
with each other in overcoming the challenges of natural disasters. Officials
need to arrange the readiness of the forces to respond to natural disasters
with the fulfilment of needs, and arrangements must be made for effectively
applying the man and material powers.
The International Day
for Disaster Risk Reduction is observed on 13 October every year for raising
public awareness of minimizing loss and damage in natural disasters. The
Vice-Senior General called for public participation in the disaster risk
reduction measures by successfully holding the International Day for Disaster
Risk Reduction.
The standing order 2009
was issued for natural disaster management based on experiences in the 2008
Nargis cyclonic storm. Now, the order was revised in line with the management
system and technological development.
The standing order on
natural disaster management for 2022 was drafted with remarks from relevant
committees and the ministry. Work committees and management committees are to
scrutinize natural disaster prevention plans in line with the 2022 standing
order.
As measures on natural
disaster management cannot be taken by a single person or organization but
through collaborative efforts, all need to connect with one another for duty
assignments and cooperation.
Vice-Chairman of the
management committee Union Ministers Lt-Gen Soe Htut and Dr Thet Thet Khine and
officials explained measures on disaster risk reduction management, the
accomplishment of the meeting minutes and compilation of the draft standard
order, and spending of the management fund.
