MoHT Union Minister highlights necessary measures to attract domestic/foreign tourists



Union Minister Dr Htay Aung of the Ministry of Hotels and Tour­ism met the directors-general of the ministry and staff, the Myan­mar Tourism Federation presi­dent, chairpersons and members of relevant associations, chairs, secretaries and joint secretaries of hotel zones and tourism asso­ciations from states and regions in the hybrid system yesterday in Nay Pyi Taw.


The Union minister point­ed out that the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of tourism development and gave guidance at State-level meetings and ceremonies.


Furthermore, the Prime Minister directed 14 points to be implemented jointly by the government and private organizations individually and as a group for the development of destination areas, while meet­ing hoteliers on 20 January in Ngapali. All stakeholders should lay emphasis on these 14 points as their working directives, the Union minister elaborated.


The ministry is implement­ing short-term and long-term projects for the systematic and sustainable development of My­anmar’s tourism in cooperation with international and regional organizations, hotels and tourism associations so that businesspeo­ple must make efforts to make their businesses successful, he urged.


From January to December 2022, the arrival of foreign tour­ists increased by 78 per cent year on year. Main visitors were from China, Thailand, India, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, the United States, Britain and Rus­sia. The Union minister stressed emphasized that exerted and collaborative efforts are needed from tourism associations and business persons as the minis­try is planning to take necessary measures so as to attract both domestic and international trav­ellers.


After the attendees dis­cussed the ministry’s measures and put forward future imple­mentation plans, Union Minister Dr Htay Aung coordinated the requirements.—MNA/TS
