Commemorative event held to mark 7th Anniversary of Mekong- Lancang Cooperation




In honour of the 7th Anniversa­ry of the Mekong-Lancang Co­operation on 23 March, the Ex­hibition on the Achievements of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund Projects in My­anmar was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs fol­lowed by the commemorative reception at M-Gallery Hotel yesterday.


Admiral Tin Aung San, Member of the State Adminis­tration Council, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communi­cations, Union Minister for For­eign Affairs U Than Swe, Union Ministers from the MLC Spe­cial Fund Projects implemen­tation ministries, the Ambas­sadors and diplomats from the Embassies of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Member States, the deputy ministers and senior officials attended the commem­orative event.


Union Minister for For­eign Affairs U Than Swe and the Heads of Mission from the Embassies of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation cut the ribbon to signify the opening of the Ex­hibition on the Achievements of Mekong-Lancang Cooper­ation Special Fund Projects in Myanmar. The dignitaries observed the exhibition on the outcome of 92 MLC Special Fund projects implemented by seventeen ministries in 34 cooperation areas.


Afterwards, the reception for the 7th Anniversary of the Mekong-Lancang Coopera­tion was also held at the same hotel. At the reception, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe delivered a com­memorative address in which he praised the benefits of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation in pursuit of regional sustain­able inclusive development as well as valuable assistance to the peoples of Myanmar through the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Platform. He also highlighted the im­portance of MLC principles in the maintenance of regional peace and stability, and also for the promotion of the socio­economic development of the Mekong-Lancang Region. The Union minister expressed his appreciation for the contribu­tion of China to the MLC Spe­cial Fund.


Ambassador Mr Chen Hai of the People’s Republic of Chi­na to Myanmar also delivered the commemorative speech.


The commemorative photo was taken and the video clip presentation featuring activ­ities of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation in Myanmar was presented at the occasion. During the dinner, the cultur­al troupe from the Fine Arts Department of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture entertained the attendees with cultural performances. A flower bouquet was presented to the cultural troupe by Admiral Tin Aung San, Member of the State Administration Council, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Min­ister of the Ministry of Trans­port and Communications, Un­ion Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe and Ambassador Mr Chen Hai of the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar.


Mekong-Lancang Coop­eration was established on 23 March 2016 with the aim to co­operate for the regional sus­tainable inclusive development by the six member countries which are Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam. Myanmar and China have been taking responsibility as the current Co-Chairs of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation. — MNA
