52.08 tons of illegal timbers confiscated in May

With the participation of the public, Forest Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection is implementing various methods including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS) to detect and seize illegal timbers and forest products in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, the states and regions in the country.


According to the statistics sent by Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, the State and Regional Forest Departments seized 52.0890 tons of illegal timber  including illegal teak weighing 21.52 tons, 11.61 tons of hardwood, 18.94 tons of others timbers, 13 vehicles and 20 culprits were confiscated and arrested from May 22 to 28 this year in the country, according to Forest Department.


Out of 52.0890  tons of illegal timber, 13.05 tons of unattended illegal teak were confiscated on May 25 in Okdwin Township.—(MNA)
