Arid region eyes livestock breeding zones
June 19
Rural communities play a crucial
role in the agricultural and livestock farming sectors, working diligently to
produce food for public consumption. By integrating small-scale agriculture and
livestock farms, their production volume can be significantly enhanced.
Specifically, in the arid region
of central Myanmar, livestock farm zones have been established, providing land
plots for residents to engage in small-scale livestock farming. This enables
them to earn income for their families while fulfilling domestic consumption
needs.
Preparations are currently
underway to establish a livestock farm zone near Kanhla Village in Kyaukse
Township, Mandalay Region. The primary objective of this zone is to facilitate
the cultivation of crops for animal feed and implement efficient cage farming
practices with a sustainable water supply. Furthermore, zone officials plan to
collaborate with relevant departments to systematically transform small-scale
livestock breeding operations into commercial ventures.
Furthermore, in Kyaukse Township,
the Thaphanchan Livestock Breeding Applied Research and Regeneration Farm is
located. This farm focuses on the production and distribution of new goat
species, as well as the management of pedigree animal species and regeneration
measures. Despite its location in a dry region, the farm has successfully
secured a water supply not only for its own regeneration purposes but also for
the Bowa goat farm, Hteinsan goat farm, and sheep farm. Local authorities are
currently exploring options for constructing water tanks to fulfill the water
needs of these animal farms.
In Nyaungbintha Village of
Meiktila Township, the Kaung Htet San dairy cow farm showcases its capacity to
produce milk and dairy products while raising dairy cows. Presently, the farm
strives to meet the demand for milk and dairy products in central Myanmar to
the best of its ability.
The Ministry of Agriculture,
Livestock, and Irrigation, along with relevant authorities, are making
concerted efforts to establish livestock breeding zones in various regions and
states. These initiatives aim to promote increased meat consumption, ensure the
well-being and nutritional needs of the people, and accelerate the growth of
the manufacturing sector based on livestock breeding farms.— GNLM/TTA
