Garlic price skyrockets while prices of beans and chilli pepper decrease
June 28
The wholesale price of Shan
garlics rose from K8,500 to K9,000 per viss in the Yangon market on 26 June
2023.
The price of No 5 large-size
garlic is K9,100 per viss even in the Aungban region, indicating a possibility
that the price of Shan garlic will soar up again in Yangon. When palm oil and
Shan garlic prices go up sharply, chilli pepper and bean prices fall again.
The wholesale price of various
chilli peppers dropped by K1,000 per viss in the Yangon market on 26 June 2023.
A tonne of pigeon peas rose to K3.33 million on 5 June, and a black gram to
K2.461 million on 14 June, while the price of gram fetched K6,000–K6,200 per
viss.
However, the prices went down to
K2.875 million for a tonne of pigeon peas, K2.27 million for a tonne of black
gram, and K5,800–K6,000 for a viss of gram on 26 June.
During the last week of June
2023, due to the instability of financial market, commodity prices fluctuated
rapidly. — TWA/CT
