Plan to green Rakhine State with resilience of natural disaster

As forest cover acreage declines in Rakhine State, natural forests and mangrove forests must be protected with growing more plants, said Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi at the meeting with officials from the Forest Department in Rakhine State yesterday morning.
Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister stressed the need to grow 204,200 saplings to successfully thrive in monsoon in Rakhine State as a special duty. As forest cover acreage declines in Rakhine State, natural forests and mangrove forests must be protected with growing more plants. The trees to be grown must not harm urbanization with resilience of storm impacts, he added.
The Union Minister inspected operating of saw mills in Sittway and stockpiling of timber at No 1 Saw mill compound before checking the site of Sittway beach where mangrove plants will be grown.
In meeting with officials at Nandawun botanical garden, the Union Minister instructed officials to grow trees of respective species to meet the garden characteristics and systematically improve the garden for public relaxation.
While in Sittway, the Union Minister met with officers and staff from Rakhine State Environmental Conservation Department. After hearing the reports on loss and damage in the Mocha and progress of rehabilitation, the Union Minister inspected progress in repairing the damaged buildings and left necessary instructions. — MNA/TTA
