ASEANPOL Member States urged to unite against transnational crime

 Collaborative efforts of country-wise police forces can effectively combat illicit drug trafficking, smuggling of arms and ammunition, and online scams.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing noted that the police force is an organization which primarily takes responsibility for internal security.

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said so at the ceremony to receive leaders of delegations from ASEANPOL member countries which have attended the 42^nd ASEANPOL Conference hosted by Myanmar.

Those delegation leaders called on the Senior General at the Credentials Hall of the Office of the SAC Chairman in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.

At the meeting, the Senior General extended his greetings, saying that the police force is an organization that primarily assumes responsibility for internal security and that its role is very significant. He stressed that ASEANPOL member states need to cooperate with each other to eradicate transnational crimes. He highlighted that collaborative efforts of country-wise police forces can effectively combat illicit drug trafficking, smuggling of arms and ammunition, and online scams. The Senior General expressed his thanks to all delegations for their participation in the 42^nd ASEANPOL Conference hosted by Myanmar.

The Chief of the Myanmar Police Force reported to the Senior General on convening the 42^nd ASEANPOL Conference hosted by Myanmar and its missions.

Leaders of ASEANPOL member states and the executive director of the ASEANPOL Secretariat introduced themselves to the Senior General. They discussed the hospitality of Myanmar in holding the conference, the cooperation of ASEANPOL member states in training sessions, and future plans for collaborative efforts in combatting transnational crimes.

Also present at the meeting were SAC Joint Secretary General Ye Win Oo, Council Member Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, Chief of Myanmar Police Force Police Lt-Gen Win Zaw Moe and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Police chiefs and senior police officers from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, as well as the executive director from the ASEANPOL Secretariat, also attended the meeting. — MNA/TTA
