ME warns: Falsification of passport subjected to legal action
October 16
The Myanmar Embassy in Seoul, Republic of Korea, warned
Myanmar citizens of strict legal action for illegal conduct during the passport
extension process. Consequently, they will get their passport deleted and
listed on the denylist, the embassy announced on 15 October.
The statement revealed that the Myanmar Embassy in Seoul has
been providing passport renewal services and consular procedures in a real time
manner. The altered passport with fraud stamp and falsification of passport are
reported.
Passport is not entitled to alter or fabricate documents.
Anyone excluding Myanmar consular officials or officials from foreign countries
is prohibited from sticking a postal stamp or being involved in the alteration,
addition or destruction of contents.
An altered passport with unauthorized change will make it
illegal, according to the notice on the back of the passport cover.
Those involved in passport extension with illegal conduct with
or without consent of the passport holders are indicted for violation of rules.
The passport shall be cancelled. It will be invalid as an official document for
international journeys and will be objected to by the relevant immigration
authorities of foreign countries.
Earlier, the embassy made a passport extension by posting an
‘Observation’ stamp on the passport and a handwritten statement. Effective
2024, a new passport will be issued for Myanmar citizens during renewal
service. That information has been sent to the relevant ministries and
institutions in the Republic of Korea.
Therefore, offences related to alteration, improper use of
passports, mutilation and forgery with the use of illegal stamps will be
investigated for passport fraud and subjected to legal actions by home
countries and the relevant countries. Thus, the embassy stated that Myanmar
citizens are warned that brokers are persuading them with false information to
give them passport renewal services, which can result in passport cancellation
and delistation. — NN/KK
