23,000+ foodstuff industries make up nearly 50% of private sector
Senior
General Min Aung Hlaing underscored that a total of 9,984 industries produce
foodstuffs out of 49,025 industries of micro-, small- and medium-sized
enterprises (MSMEs) across the nation.
The
Myanmar Foodstuff Development Forum (2025) was inaugurated at the Myanmar
International Convention Centre II in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning, with an
address by State Administration Council Chairman Prime Minister Senior General
Min Aung Hlaing.
Speaking
on the occasion, the Senior General noted that any country can be assessed
with Gross Domestic Product-(GDP) for its economic development. The calculation
of GDP can be based on agriculture, industrial and service sectors.
He recounted that the
Industrial Development Commission, the Electricity and Energy Development
Commission and the Agriculture and Livestock Development Commission were formed
for the harmonious development of the industrial and economic sectors of the
State.
The Senior General emphasized
that the forum aims to create a better economic environment for the development
of foodstuff industries, promote the manufacturing of quality and safe
foodstuffs along the production chain, ensure local food security and produce
import substitutes to be able to penetrate the international market, create new
plans for continuous comprehensive development of foodstuff industries and
disseminate clear laws, procedures, techniques and standards for sustainable
development of foodstuff industries.
He
continued to say that a total of 23,887 foodstuff industries have registered
so far, accounting for 49.63 per cent in the private industries.
He highlighted that a
total of 2,004 foodstuff industries have registered among other registered
industries in industrial zones. Only when the government and private sector
are in close cooperation to fulfil needs will manufacturing and commodity flow
improve.
The Senior General explained
that encouraging MSMEs to have achievement aims at developing of internal
economy as well as domestic production. In doing so, raw materials are
essential for the manufacturing of products. Hence, the policy was adopted for
producing domestic raw materials. Products of agriculture and livestock farms
are certain raw materials. Efforts must be made to manufacture import
substitute goods and enhance manufacture of export products step by step. High
quality of products and proper packaging forms contribute to increased demand
and supply process.

President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of
Commerce and Industry U Aye Win reported on holding the Myanmar Foodstuff Development
Forum 2025.

President U Aye Win and Chairman of Myanmar Foodstuff Producer and Exporter
Association U Aung Shwe presented an emblem of the forum to the Senior General.
The
Senior General visited booths of foodstuffs manufactured domestically at the
forum, asked about what he wanted to know and gave guidance.
Also
present at the ceremony were SAC Joint Secretary General Ye Win Oo, council
members, Union ministers, Union-level dignitaries, the Nay Pyi Taw Council
Chairman, senior Tatmadaw officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief,
deputy ministers, departmental heads, businesspersons and officials.
The forum will take
place till 20 February. It will feature sector-wise seminars for the development
of Myanmar’s foodstuff industries. — MNA/TTA
