88.27 Tons of Illegal Timber Seized in Nay Pyi Taw, States, and Regions

The Forest Department,
under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, is
implementing various programs, including the Community Monitoring and Reporting
System (CMRS), to detect and seize illegal timber and forest products in
collaboration with local communities.
According to reports
from the Nay Pyi Taw, State, and Region Forest Departments, between January 27
and February 2 this year, a total of 88.27 tons of timber were seized across
the Nay Pyi Taw Council area, States, and Regions. This included 16.62 tons of
illegal teak, 9.41 tons of hardwood, and 62.23 tons of other types of timber.
Additionally, three
vehicles and machines were seized, and 17 individuals were apprehended in
connection with the case.— MNA
