Kyunhla Township Harvests Over 12,000 Acres of Winter Peanut

Kyunhla, 19 February

Kyunhla Township in Kanbalu District, Sagaing Region, has harvested over 12,000 acres of groundnuts out of the 14,000 acres planted this winter, according to the Township Agriculture Department.

"This winter, we are cultivating groundnuts, sesame, sunflower, niger, and mustard seeds as oilseed crops. Groundnuts are grown during both the rainy and winter seasons. To date, we have harvested 12,375 acres, yielding 75.25 bushels per acre. We are steadily expanding the number of acres we plant each year, and we are in discussions with farmers to increase this further," said Daw Myint Myint Yi, head of the Township Agriculture Department.

Kyunhla Township had originally planned to plant 13,896 acres of groundnuts for the winter crop season, but, as of now, 14,239 acres of groundnuts have been successfully planted. The Township Agriculture Department has been providing high-quality peanut seeds, conducting training courses and field exhibitions, and offering guidance on post-harvest techniques.—Myo Win Nyo (Kyunhla)
