MIFER Union Minister attends AFTA Council Ministers Meeting

Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations
and AFTA Council Minister of Myanmar Dr Kan Zaw attended the Virtual
Ministerial Meeting of AFTA Council Ministers concerned with the ASEAN Trade in
Goods Agreement (ATIGA) Upgrade Negotiation which was held on 7 February 2025
at the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Office 1, Nay Pyi
Taw.
The meeting was chaired by Mr Gan Kim Yong, Deputy Prime
Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry of Singapore and also attended by
AFTA Council Ministers from the ASEAN Member States, ASEAN Deputy
Secretary-General and representatives.
The Ministers discussed and provided guidance on the
outstanding issues of the ATIGA upgrade negotiation and the arrangement for the
signing of the Second Protocol to Amend the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement.
Negotiation of the ATIGA upgrade was started in March 2022 and aims to conclude
in March 2025.
The meeting was joined by Dr Marlar Myo Nyunt, SEOM Lead of
Myanmar, Director-General of the Foreign Economic Relations Department and
responsible persons together with the Union minister. — MNA
