Myanmar to host first Traditional Thanaka Beauty Contest in Bago
MYANMAR’S first-ever Traditional Thanaka
Beauty Contest will be held in Bago Region from 8 to 14 March at the parking
area near the Shwemawdaw Pagoda, according to the Association for Preservation
of Traditional Sports and Cultural Heritage.
The competition will feature renowned
artists from the film, music, and theatre industries as judges, while
well-known celebrities, social media influencers, comedians, and cultural
enthusiasts are also expected to attend.
A festival committee member stated:
“The first-ever Thanaka Beauty Contest in Myanmar will take place from 8 to 14
March, from 4 pm to 10 pm daily. The event is open to everyone and in addition
to the contest, a Chinlone (cane ball) competition will also be held. There
will be a market fair, including the sale of pieces of Thanaka branches.”
Alongside the Thanaka Beauty and
Chinlone competitions, the festival will also feature traditional sports,
cultural exhibitions, and a market fair. Attendees can enjoy live music
performances by famous artists and DJ entertainment throughout the festival. —
