Myanmar’s future generations preserve traditional hair style
CHILDREN in Yebokkyi Village, Pwintbyu
Township have been preserving the Myanmar’s traditional hairstyle named
“Sankaytha Sayit Wyne” for over 200 years. This is one of Myanmar’s
traditional cultural practices.
Myanmar has many traditional cultural
practices, including the Thingyan festival, betel nut customs, traditional
clothing, traditional music and traditional sports. It also includes the cultural
heritage of pagodas, temples, lakes and stupas, as well as traditional crafts
and arts.
The traditional cultural heritage
including the hairstyles of young boys and girls in rural villages has been
preserved with great care. These hairstyles, particularly the circular hair
styles known as “Sayit Wyne” are admired for their elegance and cultural
significance. They have gained popularity worldwide through online media and
have become beloved cultural symbols that people from around the world come to
study and admire.
The villages that still preserve this
traditional hairstyle are rare, with only a few villages in Myanmar continuing
this practice. These include villages like Khansatkan in the Natogyi Township
and Setsetyo in the NyaungU Township, both located in the Mandalay Region and
Yebokkyi village in the Pwintbyu Township in the Magway Region. — Zeyya Naing
