Hpa-an on track to become model green city
APPROXIMATELY 70 per cent of the project to transform Hpa-an, the capital of Kayin State, into a green and clean city has been completed, according to U Saw Khin Maung Myint, Minister for Economic Affairs of the Kayin State government.
The initiative reportedly aims to make Hpa-an a model city among all state and regional capitals across the country in terms of cleanliness and environmental sustainability.
Efforts are currently focused on maintaining cleanliness, particularly at the entrances to the city and in areas with heavy tourist traffic, as part of the city’s ongoing transformation into a green and clean City. Additionally, flower planting is conducted during the rainy season.
To attract more tourists, a local tourism management committee has been formed under the regional tourism development programme. This committee is working to ensure cleanliness and pleasant surroundings in high-traffic areas such as routes leading up to Zwekabin Mountain and other tourist destinations. Rubbish bins are being installed along roadsides in these locations.
Furthermore, these bins are reportedly emptied by volunteers and members of environmental conservation groups regularly, with collection taking place either once a month or every two months. — ASH/KNN
