Kanbalu Township Completes Planting of Over 200,000 Acres of Rain-Fed Pulses

Kanbalu Township in Sagaing Region has nearly completed its seasonal goal of cultivating 209,357 acres of rain-fed pulse crops, including green gram, pigeon pea, blue phaseolus, butter beans, and other varieties. According to the Kanbalu Township Agriculture Department, 207,303 acres have already been planted as of July, following sowing that began in April and May.

“In Kanbalu Township, 99.02 percent of planned rain-fed pulse cultivation has been completed,” said U Myo Zaw, staff officer of the Township Agriculture Department. “To improve crop yields, we are promoting the use of natural fertilizers to enrich the soil at low cost. We are also demonstrating the preparation of super bokashi compost, which farmers can easily produce and apply themselves. Additionally, we are encouraging the cultivation of commercial pulse varieties that require less water, focusing on high-quality, marketable varieties using modern agricultural techniques.”

The breakdown of the planted areas includes 80,926 acres of green gram, 123,366 acres of pigeon pea, 2,225 acres of blue phaseolus, 777 acres of butter beans, and nine acres of other pulse crops.— Aung Win Nyein (Kanbalu)
