Rehab efforts beefed up in quake-stricken areas
PEOPLE, together with members from
relevant organizations, participate in rehabilitation efforts in damaged
areas caused by the Mandalay earthquake.
Yesterday, Sagaing Region Chief Minister
U Myat Kyaw and Lt-Gen Thet Pon from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief
(Army) observed the clearing of debris at the religious sites in Sagaing, and
the land area to reconstruct the Maha Zedihla Pagoda severely destroyed by the
quake, and the renovation of Mahiyangana and Laykyun Mahnaung pagodas.
They also oversaw other cleaning
activities in the compounds of pagodas, monasteries, basic education middle
school (branch) and houses in Sagaing.
Likewise, Lt-Gen Soe Tint Naing from
the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) and relevant officials inspected
the repair work at the Shwekyatkya Pagoda and removal of damaged parts of
collapsed buildings in Amarapura, Chanmyathazi and Chanayethazan townships in
