Two-day illegal trade crackdown seizes goods worth K754M

UNDER the supervision of the
Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts to combat the illicit
trade are continued effectively by the law.
On 24 and 25 July, the combined
teams impounded industrial materials valued at K646.38 million without official
documents from 18 containers at the Asia World Port, industrial materials and
consumer goods valued at K2.9 million from luggage of two passengers at the
Yangon International Airport, industrial materials valued at K9.379 million
without official documents at the Yangon International Airport (Import Desk)
and a Mitsubishi canter truck (approximately K25 million), heading to Waw from
Kyaikto, carrying foodstuffs valued at K2.5 million without official documents
at the Nyaungkhashay X-ray station. The action was conducted under Customs procedures.
Moreover, the combined on-duty
teams seized a Toyota Hilux (approximately K25 million), travelling from
Myittha to Mandalay, carrying consumer goods wroth K15.84 million without
official documents at the Myitnge checkpoint, foodstuffs worth K15.65 million
without official documents in Mawlamyine Township, industrial materials valued
at K11.577 million that were smuggled and piled up by the side of road over
Sinphyu checkpoint in Muse Township, 12 unregistered vehicles and 27
unregistered motorbikes. The action was conducted under Customs procedures and
related laws.
The Steering Committee reported
12 arrests on 24 and 25 July, seizing illegal goods worth approximately K754
