Myanmar’s first international Elephant Museum opens at Yangon Zoo
THE Yangon Zoo has invited the public to
explore Myanmar’s first international natural heritage sanctuary, the
Elephant Museum inside the zoo, as one of the must-visit destinations.
The elephant museum is dedicated to
Asian elephants, their habitats and habits, and it will provide an in-depth
look at the habitats and habits of the wildlife in Myanmar, as well as details
of their history in different ages.
The museum also features utensils of
rare elephants, ancient elephant bones, fossils, tusks, skeletons of a whole
elephant, Myanmar handicrafts made with elephant body parts, and books on elephant-keeping
techniques for personal exploration.
It was opened inside the Yangon Zoo on World
Wildlife Day on 3 March 2019, aiming to protect elephants and educate the
public. The museum will contribute to raising public awareness on elephant
conservation, combating illicit trafficking of elephant parts, reducing
human-elephant conflicts, preventing their extinction and participating in the
wildlife conservation campaigns.
The Yangon Zoo is open from 8 am to 4 pm
every day, and elephant lovers are invited to visit the Elephant Museum located
inside the zoo, it stated. — MT/ZN
