Nyaungshwe, PhaungdawU festivals to feature Inlay boat races
NYAUNGSHWE Pagoda Festival and Inlay
PhaungdawU Pagoda Festival will add Traditional Inntha boat races, said U Tin
Aung, chair of the Inntha traditional boat race organizing subcommittee.
Boat races will take place on 26 September
during the Nyaungshwe Pagoda Festival in front of the Yayle Guest Hall and in
the Nankat Creek, Kanna Street, Nyaungshwe, on 28 September.
During the PhaungdawU Pagoda Festival,
boat races will be held on 8 and 9 October.
“This annual boat race aims to preserve
culture, tradition and customs passed down from generations. Both male and
female nearby villagers will take part in the race. Students from each school
will also participate in the boat race,” said U Tin Aung.
Different categories of leg-rowing boat
races are male boat races with over 100 men, female boat races with 26 women,
student boat races (with 26 persons) and solo boat races. — ASH/KK
