UEC holds election press briefing
THE Union Election Commission (UEC)
held an election-related press release programme yesterday afternoon at the annexe
of the Union Election Commission.
The event was attended by UEC members U
Khin Maung Oo, U Aung Lwin Oo, and U Myint Thein, the Chairman and Second
Vice-Chairman of the Myanmar Press Council, responsible officials, staff
members of the UEC office, as well as reporters from local media organizations
and locally based foreign media agencies.
At the programme, UEC member U Khin
Maung Oo explained the commission’s ongoing efforts for the successful
holding of a multiparty democratic general election. He elaborated on matters
relating to political parties, the practice of a changed electoral system, the
use of Myanmar Electronic Voting Machines (MEVM) in voting, step-by-step
preparations for the election, compilation of voter lists, submission of candidate
lists for parliamentary seats, election campaigning, election security, the
invitation of domestic and international election study groups, and media
access to election news.
Afterwards, attending media
organizations raised questions, which were answered by UEC members. U Khin
Maung Oo then delivered closing remarks and concluded the programme.
A total of 78 journalists from 30 local
media organizations and eight locally based foreign media agencies attended the
