India invited to invest in avocado processing plant in Myanmar
INDIA has been invited to invest in the construction and operation of an avocado processing plant in Myanmar, according to the Myanmar Trade Promotion Organization (MyanTrade).
In addition, Myanmar has requested India’s assistance, including technical support, to facilitate the export of avocados to the Indian market.
Currently, plans are underway to export 200 tonnes of frozen avocados to India this year, with samples being sent through the Myanmar Avocado Producer and Exporter Association (MAVO).
Myanmar exported over 7,600 tonnes of avocados in the 2023-2024 and more than 8,000 tonnes in the 2024-2025 financial years. For the 2025-2026 financial year, exports are expected to exceed 10,000 tonnes, with current shipments primarily destined for Thailand.
Avocado was first cultivated in Myanmar about 75 years ago and is mainly grown in Shan State, Chin State, Sagaing Region, and around PyinOoLwin in Mandalay Region. Avocados contain more than 20 vitamins and minerals and are rich in nutrients, making them popular in international markets.
