Mongnawng raid nets fraud, gambling suspects along with arms and equipment
AS part of serving the national duty,
the government has been actively undertaking operations to eliminate telecom
fraud and online gambling, coordinating not only with domestic security forces
but also with governments of neighbouring countries to ensure that such
activities cannot take root in Myanmar. During the period from 24 to 26 November,
authorities apprehended 26 foreign nationals and eight Myanmar citizens
involved in telecom fraud and online gambling, seizing related equipment, arms
and ammunition used in the criminal activities near Mongnawng of Kehsi
Township in Shan State (South).
On 24 November, security forces taking
security measures in the local area in Kehsi Township arrived in an area
around northwest of Naungtauk Village, southeast of Mongnawng and found
suspicious buildings. They found it was an area where telecom found and online
gambling activities were carried out. The security forces did not find the
individuals involved in the telecom fraud and online gambling and seized five
40 feet long and 20 feet wide tents, six 20 feet by 10 feet tents, seven 10
feet by ten feet tents, three 10 feet long and 10 feet lakes, five pig farms,
eight guard posts, two kitchens, 150 plastic chairs, one large dressing table,
five wooden chairs two monitors and one Starlink device.
The security forces also seized
temporary buildings used in the online scams and gambling, three tents with 70
feet in length and 30 feet in width, two 40 feet by 40 feet tents, one 25 feet
by 15 feet tent, 28 20 feet by 15 feet tents, three generators, one small
refrigerator, one freezer, five air coolers, and one Land Cruiser near Kaunghai
Village, southeast of Mongnawng on 25 November.
On 26 November, the security forces
impounded 12 buildings, one workshop and one warehouse constructed for
carrying out telecom fraud and online gambling and four blue barrels with
80-gallon capacity each near Wamkyaung Village, southeast of Mongnawng.
Moreover, they arrested 26 Chinese nationals and eight Myanmar citizens involved
in telecom fraud and online gambling in the southern part of Naungtauk Village,
southeast of Mongnawng. According to the confession, the security forces
seized one MA-1, one MA- 13, one AK-12, one carbine, one Winchester 12V, 10 9mm
bullets, two 12V bullets, one magazine for 9mm bullets, one AK magazine, and
one carbine magazine hidden near the village.
The seized items, temporary shelters,
and other accommodations were incinerated. The arrestees and those involved
are being systematically investigated so that legal action can be taken in
accordance with the law. In addition, foreign nationals will be repatriated to
their respective countries with consideration for humanitarian support and fostering
friendly relations between nations. Meanwhile, the confiscated weapons are
