See potential for sector-wise cooperation between Myanmar and Belarus

MYANMAR is a sovereign country that exercises a genuine, disciplined multiparty democratic system, with an independent, active and non-aligned foreign policy. Moreover, Myanmar maintains friendly diplomatic relations with other countries and engages in the principles of peaceful coexistence with them.

Among friendly countries, Belarus and Myanmar have been maintaining diplomatic relations since 1999. The bilateral relationship has strengthened over time through mutual trust, understanding, and cooperation. It is known that leaders from both countries have undertaken goodwill visits to each other’s nations to further foster friendly relations.

At the invitation of Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and State Security and Peace Commission Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, a high-level delegation led by President of the Republic of Belarus Mr Aleksandr Lukashenko to pay an official visit to Myanmar arrived at the Nay Pyi Taw Tatmadaw Airport on 27 November. The Belarusian delegation was warmly welcomed by the dignitaries of Myanmar and the people weaving miniature flags of both countries.

In order to promote economic and investment cooperation between Myanmar and Belarus, the two countries jointly organized the Myanmar-Belarus Economic Forum on the morning of 27 November at the Lottee Hotel in Yangon, in collaboration with UMFCCI and Bel-CCI. At the forum, discussions were held on agricultural production and food sector cooperation, for the development of bilateral trade between the two countries, and the export of Myanmar rice, rubber, nuts, fruits, and coffee products to Belarus. They also discussed the import of cheese and butter from Belarus to Myanmar. Businesspersons and delegation members from both countries exchanged ideas, explored potential partnerships, and shared relevant information for mutual economic collaboration.

In order to increase the value of domestic production in the country, Myanmar can gain significant benefits from Belarus’s advanced agricultural and food processing systems, machinery, data management systems, and integrated technologies, thereby strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

The official goodwill visit of the Belarusian President to Myanmar is expected to further enhance bilateral diplomatic relations in addition to multiple sectors between the two countries. It is believed that this visit will strengthen cooperation and deepen the friendly ties between Myanmar and Belarus. Nevertheless, the official goodwill visit of the Belarusian President to Myanmar is believed to be a visit that will further strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two countries, while also enhancing benefit with momentum between the two countries.
