127 foreigners linked to telecom fraud, gambling repatriated

A total of 127 foreign nationals involved in telecom fraud and other criminal activities were repatriated to their respective countries through the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge II in pursuit of legal procedures, humanitarian considerations, and friendly relations between nations.

The group comprised 91 Indonesian nationals and 36 Kenyan nationals who had illegally entered Myanmar via border routes after transiting through Thailand and some neighbouring countries. They committed illegal online gambling, telecom fraud, and other criminal offences in the Myawady-Shwe Kokko area of Kayin State. The repatriation was carried out via the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge II.

To ensure the systematic and smooth implementation of the repatriation process, Myawady District Administration and Management Committee Member Lt-Col San Shwe and departmental officials verified lists and data for accuracy and completeness, and carried out necessary coordination measures.

The handover ceremony then continued with the attendance of Assistant Director U Thant Zin from the Ministry of Immigration and Population, Deputy Ambassador Mrs Nancy Wanjiru Mwangi and officials from the Embassy of the Republic of Kenya to Thailand, Counsellor Mr Vinsky Wattimena and officials from the Embassy of Indonesia to Thailand, and officials from the Tak Province Immigration Office of Thailand. Responsible officials from Myanmar systematically handed over the relevant repatriation and acceptance documents to representatives of the respective countries.

The Government of Myanmar is actively cooperating with neighbouring countries, regional nations, and international organizations to identify, arrest, and take effective and severe action against those involved in online scam centres and foreign nationals who mastermind such activities. At the same time, it is also effectively coordinating efforts to ensure the prompt repatriation of foreign nationals facing hardship for various reasons and those who have been trafficked. — MNA/KZL
