9th Myanmar-India Joint Trade Committee meeting held





THE Ninth Myanmar–India Joint Trade Committee Meet­ing, hosted by Myanmar, was held yesterday at the Park Royal Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw.


At the meeting, chaired by Deputy Minister for Com­merce U Min Min of the Ministry of Commerce, an opening address was deliv­ered in which he stated that, in accordance with the Mem­orandum of Understanding on the establishment of the Myanmar–India Joint Trade Committee, the committee meetings have been held alternately by the two coun­tries since 2003. He noted that these meetings repre­sent an important milestone in enhancing bilateral trade cooperation. He added that discussions would be held on ways and means to further increase bilateral trade vol­umes, facilitate smoother trade, improve infrastructure, and promote increased invest­ment in key sectors such as agriculture, transport, energy, information and communica­tion technology, micro, small and medium-sized enterpris­es, and health. He expressed confidence that today’s meet­ing would further strengthen existing cooperation between the two countries and help identify effective measures to reduce and overcome trade-related challenges faced by businesses on both sides.


AT the Preliminary Meeting held yesterday, the minutes of the meeting, following detailed discussions by representatives of the relevant ministries of both countries, were reportedly confirmed and signed by Dep­uty Minister for Commerce of Myanmar and Shri Nitin Kumar Yadav, Additional Secretary of the Department of Commerce under the Ministry of Com­merce and Industry of India. A luncheon was then hosted for the delegates from Myanmar and India in attendance.


The Ninth Myanmar–In­dia Joint Trade Committee Meeting was attended by di­rectors-general, the deputy permanent secretary, deputy directors-general and respon­sible officials from the Ministry of Commerce, deputy direc­tors-general and officials from relevant ministries, Mr Abhay Thakur, Ambassador of India to Myanmar, and a delegation led by Shri Nitin Kumar Yadav, Additional Secretary of the De­partment of Commerce under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of In­dia, along with other officials. A total of 56 delegates attended the meeting. It is learnt that both sides agreed to hold the Tenth Myanmar–India Joint Trade Committee Meeting in New Delhi, India. – MNA/ MKKS
