Pwintbyu Township Completes 100% Harvest of Winter Green Gram
Pwintbyu, March 19
Pwintbyu Township in Magway Region has successfully completed the full harvest of green gram cultivated during the current winter season, according to the Township Agriculture Department.
A total of 72 acres were planted this season, with harvesting beginning in February. As of now, all cultivated acres have been fully harvested with an average yield of 16.31 bushels of green gram per acre.
The Township Agriculture Department has provided guidance to winter crop farmers on selecting high-quality seed varieties suitable for the region, applying irrigation water efficiently, using fertilizers and agricultural inputs correctly, and implementing effective pest and disease control measures. In addition, farmers have received support through awareness programs, including training on timely harvesting techniques.
“If the yield and quality of green gram can be further improved, it will not only meet local consumption needs but also create opportunities for increased income through surplus sales,” said Daw Moe Moe Wai, Staff Officer of the Township Agriculture Department. “This, in turn, will help improve livelihoods and contribute to socio-economic development. Therefore, efforts should be made to expand green gram cultivation in the township,” she added.— Hlaing Win Lay (Pwintbyu Myay)
