30 APRIL 2026
A Myanmar national, Maung San Yu,
who was legally employed at a steel casting factory in Hwaseong City, Gyeonggi
Province, Republic of Korea, suffered a workplace accident on 24 March and
later passed away while receiving medical treatment at a hospital.
The Myanmar Embassy in Seoul
assisted the family of the deceased by facilitating timely visa arrangements so
they could travel to Korea to hold the funeral. The embassy also worked in
coordination with the E9 Friends Law Firm company, which officially signed with
the labour attaché, the
Ministry of Labour, to ensure that all entitled rights and benefits were fully
obtained. Embassy staff, along with personnel from the military attaché office, also attended the
funeral and provided necessary assistance.
During the family’s stay in
Korea, the labour attaché
from the Myanmar Embassy in Seoul supported them with travel and accommodation
arrangements, opening a temporary bank account, handling necessary
documentation, and coordinating with relevant organizations to secure all
entitled benefits.
As a result of these efforts, the
deceased’s wife was able to fully receive all due entitlements, including
service pay, unpaid wages, overtime pay, leave compensation, workplace injury
insurance, funeral support funds, and employer-provided compensation, and
arrangements were made to ensure legal fees were kept at a minimum rate.
The Myanmar Embassy in Seoul
assists and protects the interests of Myanmar nationals in Korea, including
those legally employed, in accordance with the laws of both countries. —
