Myanmar, Thailand Eye Wider Cooperation in Key Economic Sectors

Thai Deputy Prime Min­ister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Si­hasak Phuangketkeow led a delegation to pay a courte­sy call on Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing yesterday morning at the Presidential Pal­ace Reception Hall in Nay Pyi Taw.

Union ministers from the President Office, Foreign Affairs, National Planning, Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, and Electricity and Energy, at­tended the meeting alongside Thai officials and embassy rep­resentatives.

Both sides discussed long-standing friendly relations between the two neighbouring countries and agreed to strength­en cooperation in multiple sec­tors. Key topics included border stability, anti-narcotics efforts, combatting online scams and illegal gambling, and reducing cross-border haze pollution. They also discussed reopening and promoting border trade routes.

The meeting further covered Myanmar’s domestic political de­velopments, including its ongoing peace process, efforts of the new government after a multiparty democratic general election, and continued cooperation under ASEAN’s Five-Point Consensus, particularly in humanitarian as­sistance and peacebuilding.

They also explored expand­ing cooperation in agriculture, livestock, investment, electricity and energy, and manufacturing sectors.

The Thai delegation ex­pressed support for Myanmar’s peace process, and both parties agreed to enhance bilateral col­laboration moving forward.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of commemorative gifts and a group photo session. — MNA/KZL
