Myitkyina University boosts China scholarship ties

UNDER the guidance of the Union Minister for Education, Myitkyina University is strengthening its international cooperation.

Yesterday, 19 students from Myitkyina University departed from Yangon International Airport to attend a three-year diploma course in “Fashion and Apparel Design” at the Guangxi Economic and Trade Vocational Institute (GXETVI) in Nanning, People’s Republic of China, on full scholarships.

The programme aims to develop skilled technicians in the textile and design sector, which is an important area for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). It also seeks to cultivate human resources capable of designing and producing value-added products that meet international standards, rather than relying on the export of raw materials.

In addition, it is expected that the opportunity to learn modern technologies in China will promote technology transfer and support the development of the domestic technical and vocational education and training (TVET) sector.

The students will begin their courses on 27 April. This collaboration represents a significant step in advancing the international engagement of Myitkyina University. The opportunity to study high-quality subjects under a comprehensive scholarship programme, without financial cost to the State, will bring considerable benefits to both the country and the university. — Kaung Kaung (Myeik)/MKKS
