Shwedagon Pagoda to host 43rd Maha Bodhi Banyan Water-pouring Festival




THE 43rd Maha Bodhi Banyan Water-Pouring Festival will be held at the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon on 30 April (the full moon day of Kason), starting at 7 am, according to U Bo Thin, a member of the Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees.


The opening ceremony of the Kason Banyan Water-Pour­ing Festival will take place at the Maha Bodhi banyan tree located at the southeast corner of the pagoda platform. It will be attended by Ovadacariya Sayad­aws of the Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees, members of the Board of Trustees, office staff, and Buddhist religious as­sociations.


In addition, arrangements will be made for pilgrims to pour water in reverence at the Bodhi banyan trees situated at the four corners of the platform, with assistance provided by mem­bers of the Buddhist religious associations and staff, according to the Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees.


“Well-wishers have ar­ranged to serve pilgrims with charity foods on the occasion of the Maha Bodhi Banyan Wa­ter-Pouring Festival,” said U Bo Thin. — ASH/KNN
