3 Chinese nationals arrested over online scam operations in Mongpan
SECURITY forces arrested three Chinese
nationals involved in illegal online gambling and telecom fraud operations in
Mongpan Township, southern Shan State, according to reports.
Authorities said two Chinese men were arrested
on 6 May about 13,700 metres northeast of Mongpan during security and
inspection operations targeting online scam activities. Another Chinese
national was arrested the following day, about 12,300 metres north of the
town, during continued searches in the area.
The government said it is stepping up
efforts to crack down on online scams and gambling operations as part of its national
responsibilities and is cooperating with neighbouring countries and international
organizations to prevent such activities from operating within Myanmar.
Officials said the foreign nationals
involved in the cases would face legal action under existing laws after
