International Midwives’ and Nurses’ Day Ceremony held in Yangon



THE Ministry of Health and the Myanmar Nurse and Midwife Council held a ceremony mark­ing International Midwives Day and International Nurses Day at the University of Nursing auditorium in Yangon on 7 May.

 

Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu, regional ministers, and officials from health-relat­ed organizations and private hospitals attended the event.

 

In his address, the Union minister praised nurses and midwives for their dedication and sacrifices during the glob­al pandemic, saying they had played a key role in saving lives and providing emergency healthcare services around the clock. He also urged healthcare workers to continue striving to provide quality healthcare ser­vices to the public and to sup­port the ministry’s objectives.

 

During the ceremony, students from the Central Midwifery Training School and the University of Nursing performed commemorative songs. Officials also present­ed honorary certificates to one recipient of the Medical Ex­cellence Medal (Third Class) and 33 recipients of the Social Excellence Medal (Third Class) for the 2025-2026 period.

 

The second session includ­ed discussions on this year’s themes for International Mid­wives Day and International Nurses Day, along with edu­cational and entertainment programmes related to nurs­ing and midwifery services. – MNA/KZL
