Kyaiktiyo Pauses Cable Car Rides Ahead of Monsoon Season
23 MAY 2026
THE operating company has
announced that cable car services at the sacred Kyaiktiyo Pagoda in Kyaikto
Township, Mon State, will be temporarily suspended during the rainy season.
Although the cable car service is
temporarily closed in the monsoon, the mountain trucks will continue to operate
as usual for pilgrims. Visitors travelling during the rainy season can still
travel smoothly and conveniently using these trucks, the company announced on
20 May. Their cable car operations will resume once the monsoon season ends.
To accommodate visitors to the
Kyaiktiyo Pagoda, cable cars previously operated from 7 am to 4 pm daily during
the pagoda’s pilgrimage season, which runs from the Full Moon Day of Thadingyut
to the Full Moon Day of Kason.
Cable car ticket prices are set
at K20,000 for a one-way trip and K30,000 for a round trip for domestic
pilgrims. For foreign tourists, the fare is US$15 for one way and US$20 for a
round trip. — MT/ZN
