Myanmar pledges continued security cooperation at 1st International Security Forum in Russia




AT the invitation of Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Mr Sergei Shoigu, a Myanmar delegation led by National Security Advi­sor and Union Minister at the President’s Office U Tin Aung San visited Moscow, Russian Federation, from 25 to 31 May.


The delegation attended the 1st International Security Forum, as well as the concur­rently held the 6th ASEAN-Rus­sia Consultations of High Representatives for Security Issues and the 14th Internation­al Meeting of High-Ranking Of­ficials Responsible for Security Matters.


During the visit, the My­anmar delegation attended the 1st International Security Fo­rum held at the Live Arena in Moscow on the morning of 26 May. The forum was convened under the theme, “Countering Neocolonialism as a Priority for Ensuring the Security of the Global Majority Countries,” and U Tin Aung San delivered an address at the opening ses­sion.


On 27 May, the Union minister attended the 6th ASEAN-Russia Consultations of High Representatives for Security Issues together with high-level representatives from ASEAN member nations and Russia. During the dia­logue, he delivered both the opening and closing remarks. Alongside the heads of dele­gations from ASEAN member states, he exchanged views on developments in regional and global security, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, strate­gic stability, arms control and nuclear non-proliferation, as well as cooperation in address­ing conventional and non-con­ventional security challenges.


On 28 May, the Union min­ister attended the 14th Interna­tional Meeting of High-Ranking Officials Responsible for Se­curity Matters and delivered a speech at the event, which was held under the theme, “Challenges and Threats to International Security in the Context of the Emergence of a Multipolar World”.


During the visit, as part of cooperation between Myan­mar and Russia, the “Memo­randum of Understanding on the Establishment of a Joint Information Security Centre” and the “Implementation Plan for Cooperation in the Field of International Information Security between Myanmar and Russia (2026-2029)” were signed by officials from both sides in the presence of the Union minister and the secre­tary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.


From 27 to 29 May, the Union minister met with the national security advisors of Russia, Belarus, Thailand, China, and India. During the meetings, the parties cordially and openly exchanged views on multidimensional cooperation, including security cooperation, economic and investment mat­ters, information sharing, and technology transfer.


Approximately 5,000 del­egates from 145 countries attended the 1st Internation­al Security Forum and the 14th International Meeting of High-Ranking Officials Re­sponsible for Security Matters, where Russian military and security products were show­cased at 22 exhibition booths. — MNA/TH
