Myanmar youth national teams compete in domestic leagues
THE Myanmar Football Federation has fielded its youth selected teams in domestic league competitions organized by the Myanmar National League to help players gain match experience.
The Myanmar U19, U17 and U16 national teams are competing under club names in different competitions. The U19 team plays as Junior Lions in MNL-2, the U17 team as Falcon in the MNL U20 Youth League, and the U16 team as Galaxy in the same U20 competition.
The U19 and U16 squads are being coached by a Japanese coach, while the U17 team is led by a local coach. The U17 side recently qualified for the AFC U17 Asian Cup and has already competed in regional tournaments this year.
The U19 team is preparing for the upcoming ASEAN U19 Championship in Indonesia, while the U16 team currently has no scheduled international competition. In the opening match of the MNL U20 season, Galaxy won while Falcon drew.
Officials said the federation has been including youth national teams in domestic leagues for over a decade to improve player development and prepare them for international competitions. – Nyi Myat Thawda/KZL
