Myanmar youth teams to join domestic leagues

THE Myanmar Football Federation will field Myanmar youth national teams in domestic league competitions to help players gain match experience and improve preparations for international tournaments.

Myanmar U19, U17 and U16 national teams will take part in league competitions organized by the Myanmar National League. The U19 team will compete in the MNL-2 tournament under the name Junior Lions, while the U17 and U16 teams will play in the MNL U20 Youth League as Falcon and Galaxy, respectively.

The Myanmar U19 and U16 teams are currently training under Japanese coaches, while the U17 team is coached by U Kyaw Zeya. The U17 side recently qualified for the AFC U17 Asian Cup and will compete in the U17 tournament and the AFC U17 Asian Cup later this year. The U19 team is also preparing for the U19 Championship to be held in Indonesia in early June.

The federation has regularly entered youth national teams in domestic leagues for more than a decade to strengthen player development and provide competitive experience ahead of international competitions. — Nyi Myat Thawda/KZL
