Students peacefully attend schools in Nay Pyi Taw
BASIC education schools for the
2026-2027 academic year were opened across the country yesterday, and students
were attending classes peacefully and happily, also in Nay Pyi Taw.
Starting from the morning, teachers at
respective schools in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory guided students to their
classrooms and arranged systematic teaching and learning activities.
The relevant officials of the Ministry
of Education, basic education teachers and officials of organizations arranged
seating plans, timetables, school hours, cleaning activities, erection of
notice boards, disciplines and mottos of the ministry, including school ferries
for the students to be able to learn peacefully.
U Win Myint Oo, headteacher of No 5
BEHS, said that from the enrolment day on 25 May until today, 1,955 students
have been admitted. There are still old students who have not enrolled for
many reasons. The number is similar to that of the 2025-2026 academic year.
School hours are from 8:45 am to 3:45 pm, with eight periods per day and four
regional study sessions per week. New subjects this year include industrial
arts, basic agriculture, and basic livestock breeding.
He noted that if students leave school
after Grade 9, these skills could help them manage their livelihoods more
easily. For Grades 11 and 12, one period of law has been added because students
are approaching the age of 18 and should understand the Constitution. The
critical thinking skills of the children who read and those who do not read
are very different. Therefore, we add a library session as we want the children
to read. I also urge them to read a lot. I also want to urge the parents to
enrol the children who are not enrolled, as it is a free education system.
Headteacher Daw May Yin Mon of the No 6
BEHS said 1,357 students have enrolled so far, which is higher than last year.
As a Smart School, one futsal field has been expanded this year. The school
operates on an eight-period daily schedule, including regional study time,
reading time, law, industrial arts, agriculture, and livestock breeding. She
also encouraged parents to enrol their children who have not yet joined school.
Daw Thet Thet Thin, headteacher of the
No 11 BEHS, said 1,559 students have enrolled so far, and the figures show an
increase compared to last year. Law has been introduced for Grades 11 and 12,
covering constitutional law, customary law, penal code, gambling law, narcotics
and psychotropic substances law, counter-terrorism law, child rights law, and
people’s military service law. For Grade 6, a new curriculum includes basic
agriculture, industrial arts, and livestock breeding to provide students with
early practical knowledge relevant to Myanmar’s agriculture- and
livestock-based economy. The library also provides various books for the
students to be able to read as per their interests.
The government initiates a free
education system, and also provides exercise books, textbooks, ball pens,
pencils and uniform for the primary to high school students.
Yesterday, a total of 200,824 students
attended basic education, monastic, and private schools in Nay Pyi Taw Union
Territory. This included 17,200 high school students, 68,618 middle school
students, and 115,006 primary school students. — Aye Aye Thant/KTZH
