Kayin State to Plant 1,115 Acres of Coffee

Kayin State will plant 1,115 acres of coffee this year and aims to expand coffee cultivation to 5,300 acres over the next five years, according to officials at a collective coffee planting event held in Kawpayan Village, Hpa-an Township, on July 20.

Kayin State Chief Minister U Saw Myint Oo attended the event, where he presented coffee saplings to farmers from Shwetaw, Phaon, Kawkyaik, Kawtayokeya, and Kawmuta villages. He also joined officials and local coffee growers in planting coffee saplings.

Following the ceremony, the Chief Minister visited farms in Yethar Village, Hpa-an Township, and distributed livestock nutritional supplements and veterinary medicines free of charge to farmers.

He then inspected a 7.10-acre pilot project in Yethar Village, cultivated by 33 farmers using integrated home gardening and organic farming practices. The project includes mustard, kale, sweet potato, lettuce, roselle, radish, okra, and eggplant. During the visit, the Chief Minister also distributed urea fertilizer, mushroom spawn, and vegetable seed packets to the participating farmers free of charge.— Saw Myo Min Thein (IPRD)
