MoALI develops AI mobile app and digital services for farmers

THE Ministry of Agri­culture, Livestock and Irrigation is developing a mobile application called ‘Taungthu Gyi AI’ to help farmers identify crop diseases and pests.

By uploading pho­tographs of affected crops, farmers will re­ceive real-time, AI-driv­en diagnoses and con­trol measures to apply in their fields. The project is being jointly implemented with the Ministry of Transport.

Union Minister U Min Naung noted that while Myanmar’s transi­tion to modern farming takes time, digital trans­formation is already ac­tive in public services, education, and market information. Current initiatives include on­line registration for ag­ricultural inputs, linking animal product trade to the National Single Win­dow system, and issuing electronic phytosani­tary certificates. Addi­tionally, private apps are supplying weather and soil data, while the Department of Agri­culture has launched a dedicated call centre to handle farming enquir­ies. — TWA/KZL
