Myitkyina’s VDP potable water well project inspected
THE Department of Rural Development, under the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development conducted a field inspection yesterday to review the completion of a hand-dug drinking water well, which was constructed under the Village Development Project (VDP) in Mawhpawng (Zone 7), Myitkyina Township.
Myitkyina Township Department of Rural Development Head U Nay Thu Yein Sein Hla and staff inspected the completed hand-dug well construction work. They also met village elders and villagers and discussed the need to collectively maintain and use the water facility sustainably, while coordinating necessary measures to meet the village’s requirements.
Mawhpawng (Zone 7) Village is implementing village development activities using K15 million allocated under the Village Development Project (VDP). With technical assistance and close supervision from officials of the Township Department of Rural Development, the construction of a hand-dug potable water well measuring four feet in diameter and 40 feet in depth was carried out by local villagers themselves during the 2026-2027 financial year and has now been completed 100 per cent to ensure year-round access to safe drinking water. — Maung Khaing (Rural)
