Ngape Township Cultivates 590 Acres of Peanuts

Farmers
in Ngape Township, Magway Region, have cultivated 590 acres of rain-fed peanuts
out of the targeted 679 acres for the 2026 rainy season, according to the
Township Agriculture Department.
Planting
began in June and includes 215 acres of Magway-16, 248 acres of Ton Thani, and
127 acres of Vietnam varieties. The department is assisting farmers in
achieving the planting target by promoting high-yielding varieties and
providing guidance on proper cultivation, herbicide use, and pest management.
Last
year, 325 acres of rain-fed peanuts were cultivated, with an average yield of
70.15 baskets per acre. Expanding peanut cultivation is expected to help
increase domestic edible oil production and contribute to price stability.—Ma
