Pilgrims throng Shwedagon and Yangon pagodas

THE Full Moon Day of Waso (Dhammacak­ka Day), an auspicious Buddhist occasion, was observed yesterday, with the Shwedagon Pagoda and other pagodas in Yangon crowded with pilgrims observing the Sabbath and performing meritorious deeds.

As part of the cele­brations, the Shweda­gon Pagoda Treasurer’s Committee organized morning alms offerings, the presentation of gold­en lotus robes, and the observance of the Pre­cepts at designated areas of the pagoda from 5 am. The ceremonies were at­tended by pilgrims, trus­tees, religious organiza­tions, donors, and Yangon Region Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu and regional ministers, who offered alms, flowers, wa­ter, oil lamps, fruits, Waso robes and donations.

Similar Waso robe offerings and religious ceremonies were held at major pagodas and Bud­dhist sites across Yangon on the same day, attract­ing pilgrims from across the country. — Zaw Min Latt (MNA)/MKKS
