Draft book on authentic traditional costumes of Myanmar’s ethnic peoples completed

THE Ministry of Culture, Hotels and Tourism has compiled a draft book entitled “Authentic Traditional National Costumes of Myanmar’s Ethnic Peoples”, containing information on the authentic national costumes of 27 ethnic groups.

“The costumes have been compiled based on the principle that innovation should not go beyond tradition. The draft book, ‘Authentic Traditional National Costumes of Myanmar’s Ethnic Peoples’, contains information on the authentic national costumes of 27 ethnic groups: six Kachin groups, nine Kayah groups, one Kayin group, one Chin group, one Bamar group, one Mon group, one Rakhine group and seven Shan groups,” an official from the Ministry of Culture, Hotels and Tourism said.

Although the draft has been completed, the information must be reviewed and verified by the relevant regional and state governments, as well as literature and culture associations, before the book is printed and published.

To be able to publish a more comprehensive edition of the book, the ministry will also continue collecting information on the authentic traditional costumes of ethnic groups whose details have not yet been submitted. — ASH/KNN
