Govt Peace Committee holds second round of talks with UWSP

MYANMAR’S National Soli­darity and Peacemaking Ne­gotiation Committee (NSP­NC) held a second round of peace talks with the United Wa State Party (UWSP) in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday, focusing on advancing the peace process, political di­alogue and regional devel­opment.

The meeting took place at the Horizon Lake View Hotel following the govern­ment’s 21 April invitation for unconditional peace talks aimed at ending armed con­flicts and resolving politi­cal issues through political means.

The government del­egation was led by Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, chairman of the NSPNC, while the UWSP delegation was headed by Vice-Chairman U Xiao Guoan.

Lt-Gen Yar Pyae said the meeting marked the second dialogue between the two sides since the for­mation of the new govern­ment. He called for contin­ued discussions to improve the political environment and address practical is­sues, including education, healthcare, transport in­frastructure and regional development.

The UWSP Vice-Chair­man congratulated Presi­dent U Min Aung Hlaing on assuming the presidency and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to safeguard­ing the Union and sup­porting the government’s ongoing peace process. He said the UWSP remained committed to resolving dif­ferences through dialogue and would continue coop­erating to combat narcot­ics, online scams and other crimes while ensuring pub­lic security.

During the talks, both sides also discussed the UWSP’s political aspira­tions within the framework of the 2008 Constitution, the national reconciliation process, and cooperation in healthcare, education, agriculture, livestock and regional development.

NSPNC Secretary Lt- Gen Min Naing said discus­sions held in Pangsang on 18 June had strengthened high-level communication between the two sides and paved the way for the cur­rent meeting in Nay Pyi Taw. He said maintaining a direct communication chan­nel between the NSPNC and UWSP would facilitate co­operation on development projects and contribute to achieving sustainable peace.

The first day of the talks concluded, with discussions scheduled to resume on 4 August. — MNA/ST
