Man arrested for stealing K60M in Kamayut

A man who allegedly stole K60 million from a parked vehicle in Kamayut Town­ship, Yangon, was iden­tified and arrested along with evidence on the evening of 9 August, ac­cording to reports.

 

At around 12:15 pm on 5 August, Daw (name undisclosed), 52, from Ward 10 in Hline Town­ship, parked her Nissan March (registration No YGN-8 2F-XXXX) on the roadside near MAB Bank on Insein Road in Ward 1, Kamayut Township. After locking her vehicle, she entered MAB Bank for ap­proximately six minutes to enquire about deposit­ing money. Upon return­ing and unlocking the ve­hicle, she discovered that K60 million that she had stored in the rear com­partment was missing. She promptly reported the theft to the Kamayut Myoma Police Station.

 

Following an investi­gation by security person­nel, Zaw Latt, also known as Aung Zaw Lat, 38, of Ohgon Village, Hinthada Township, Ayeyawady Re­gion, was identified and arrested at his residence on the evening of 9 Au­gust, where K14 million was also seized.

 

The offender said that at about 11:30 am on 5 Au­gust, he saw the woman get out of the white Nis­san March parked on the roadside near MAB Bank on Insein Road in Ward 1, Kamayut Township. As she locked the vehicle, he lifted the handle of the ve­hicle’s rear left door in a way that prevented it from being properly locked. While the vehicle owner was inside MAB Bank, he subsequently stole K60 million from the vehicle.

 

Efforts were made to recover the stolen proper­ty. On the afternoon of 11 August, two gold rings and K10 million purchased with the stolen money were seized from a res­idence in Seikkyi East Ward, Seikkyi Khanaung­to Township. Another K10 million was seized from a residence in Ward 5, Seikkyi Khanaungto Township.

 

The offender will face legal action under the ex­isting law. — MNA/KTZH
