Myanmar, Thailand to deepen military cooperation




COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF of Defence Services Gen­eral Ye Win Oo received Mr Chatchai Bangchuad, Secretary-General of the National Security Council of Thailand, in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.


During the meeting, the two sides discussed the successful holding of the 9th High Level Com­mittee (9th HLC) meeting between the Myanmar and Thai armed forces in Thailand, measures to enhance cooperation be­tween the two Tatmadaws in successfully promoting stability and peace, the rule of law, development and counter-terrorism efforts in border areas, border trade, the effec­tive measures being un­dertaken by the State as a national task to prevent and suppress online scams and gambling, further co­operation between the two governments and Tatmad­aws as more than 99 per cent of those involved in online scams are illegal cross-border entrants.


The meeting also cov­ered measures to prevent and control the illegal transport, sale and traf­ficking of arms and am­munition, narcotic drugs and controlled chemical substances, full coopera­tion on security matters to ensure that people living in the border areas of both countries can live in stabil­ity and peace, the timely exchange of information, and continued efforts to further strengthen the existing friendly relations and cooperation between the two armed forces.


After the meeting, the General and the Sec­retary-General exchanged gifts and posed for a doc­umentary. — MNA/KTZH
